Well its only a mile from the gym to work no need to put on the over pants..... It's very foggy this morning, when I got off the bike at the gym I looked like I had been riding in the rain. Got my workout in and headed off to work. The overpants seemed to struggle with being bungied down to the tail. I didnt feel like putting them on a for 3 min ride. Making a left off a well traveled and dry road I went on nice and wet asphalt (didnt even think about it being wet). I did my usual lean on the turn and right at the apex of my turn the bike just keeps going down nice and smooth. I try to give it some power and come back up that only breaks the rear tire loose and away we go. Was going less than 20mph I made sure to push hard on the foot pegs to get the bike away from me. I slid maybe a foot and bike stopped moving when I did. I hop up and several Marines run over to help me out along with a guy in a truck that I had just nodded to 30 seconds before. Damage report... Frame puck left side skuffed Handguard skuffed Left mirror toasted Left foot peg minor grind on bottom Chunk of rubber missing from shifter peg Two bolts on the shifter mech skuffed. Minor skuff on left front turn indicator Me...( Notice I listed bike damage first) Left knee has a nice carpet burn Right thumb angry with me, not swelling however I found a ice pack in the fridge here at work and have been doing the 5 on 5 off trick. Dickies work pants are toasted. I needed a new pair anyway. FXRG jacket minor skuff on left sleeve. Somehow my lid escaped injury. ( More than likely a testimate to how slow and minor of a lowside I had.) Lessons learned.. Respect the FOG, it causes more problems than low viz. ONE mile is too far to go w/o protective pants. If anyone would like to help out with p/n's it would greatly appreciated. |

Crashes are no fun, unless you somehow manage to not damage the bike. I always worry more about my machine than myself, I heal, the bike doesn't. Here are your part numbers: Frame Puck (L): M0028.1AKA $29.95 Handgaurd (L) : N0007.1AJMBP $16.60 Mirror : N0161.01A1A $24.70 Rider Peg (L) : N0502.1AK $19.70 Shifter Rubber: N0600.02A8A $2.10 Turn Signal(L): Y0503.K $11.85 Shifter Screws: AA0508.2CXZB $2.75 ea. I am not sure which screws you scuffed, so I listed the two screws that hold the shifter bracket on. These are the same screws that I damaged in my crash. I basically had the same damage with the exception of a nice shapely dent in my frame. My FXRG jacket worked wonderfully. I ordered armored overpants as soon as I got to work the next day. According to the parts/price list it wouldn't even get close to a 250 deductible and that is why I only carry liability and uninsured motorist on this ULY bike. |

Yoiks! Until some Betty pulls out in front of you in the fog! Then you're out 10 large at least (you will of course replace the Uly, right?) |

Thanks Raven, I need the pivot bolt and the one the linkage attaches too. Futher insp shows I should replace the clutch lever. I'm thinking I should just replace the shifter lever also. Who knows when that cast aluminimun will break from the stress. |

Glad you came out as well as you did! Despite thoughts to the contrary you are most vulnerable on the short rides. You are in your "comfort zone" and it is easy to get complacent and miss small warning signs. ATGATT is important for your well being. Even on rides that take less time than putting on and taking off the gear. |
