I need a new front brake lever, and I don't want to pay the dealership $44 for one. Anyone have a better option? Is there an aftermarket lever? Can I use the lever from an older Buell? | ||

From what I was told.... Not unless you spend the $80 for a CRG lever. I bought a new OE. For me...it's was worth the money. Even if you can find a cheap Chinese knockoff... that's all they are...cheap. | ||

The old Buell brake levers have a different cam profile, don't switch them. | ||

Ok, now we're talking. Is the clutch lever also the same as an R1? I can get a set including both clutch and brake levers under $20 for an R1. If I buy Buell parts, I have to get the whole assembly and not just the lever, so I'd be out of pocket over $70 for both sides. | ||

I just replaced the clutch lever with oem (dropped mine in a parking lot) for $45 (39 for lever plus shipping). I imagine Dave S. can get you one for a bit cheaper. Of course now I am wondering if I could have gotten one that would have let me set position like the brake lever. | ||

Howdy! When you get your replacement levers, you may wish to consider bobbing them with a hacksaw to convert them into two or three finger shorty levers. Shorty levers are more survivable during hostile encounters than long levers. If you also add a set of extra large-heavy HVMP Bar-End weights, lever survivability will be further enhanced. In addition to enhanced survivability, you may also discover that you prefer the ergonomics of short levers. I cut my levers with a 45 degree angle front to back. I removed less material from the front face of the lever than I removed the back face of the lever. The back face of the lever has about 1/4" more material removed from it than does the front face of the lever. The resultant bevel eliminates pinching the adjacent finger that is gripping the handlebar when the lever is actuated. I removed about 2-1/4 inches from the front face of the front brake lever. I removed about 1-1/2 inches from the front face of the clutch lever. I have slender fingers. If your fingers are thicker, you may not want to remove as much material. I smoothed and put a radius on the end of the levers with a stationary belt sander. A file would also work. Have fun! | ||
