Well I finally broke down and bought one this weekend. It is a fast black one. I bought mine from Atlanta Harley Davidson. They have 4 more and are willing to deal. Interesting comment from them. They felt like HD was not giving them enough support to sell a great bike in the Ulysses. At the same time they have nothing for Buell on their floor except bikes so?? First day was an experience. I really questioned myself. The next day the smile started coming on my face. It is a really nice bike. Now for the questions. 1. Lighting is just not great. Is there a low cost solution ie bulb replacement? and what are you using? the buell xenon bulbs?? 2. Not sure I want the hard bags but would like to take some stuff around every once and a while. Is anybody using alternative soft bags? and if so what?? thanks, GTMG Go Jackets (Message edited by gtmg on September 12, 2006) |

Hi Gtmg! Glad you got one of the MUCH faster black ones. Smart, very smart I can't help you with those questions as I have the hard bags and have yet to do anything with the lighting (but I plan to). I just wanted to say hi and welcome! |

Welcome CTMG, I use the CP64217 H7 Bulb, 12V, 65W, H9 Burner, 2100 Lumens by Osram, each $23.15 from here: http://www.rallylights.com/hella/H7.asp You can also wire the headlights so both come on for the high beam. |

One more issue around lighting. See there is some discussion on the internet around of going to yellow bulbs with higher wattage to gain visibility. It does make some sense. What are your thoughts about this strategy? Has anybody tried this and if so what about night vision? GTMG Go Jackets (Message edited by gtmg on September 12, 2006) |

I'm not sure about the yellow/white deal, but I switched to Sylvania SilverStar bulbs which seem better to me YMMV. On my bike, the headlight was hopelessly mis-aligned (low) when I took delivery, and adjusting it up helped a lot. Still not the greatest lighting, but between the new bulbs and the adjustment, it's passable. I have the Buell hard bags, so I cant help you on the soft bags question. Enjoy the new bike! Jeff |

I'm running a soft-bag setup. I've got the Cortech tail pack (which I almost always have on) and the Cortech sport saddle bags (which go on for longer trips) and I'm very happy with both. Just finished a 900 mile weekend with that setup and it worked very well. Congrats on the purchase, and welcome to the fold! |

Welcome to the club! The Ventura pack fits real nice over the beaver tail on the back of the Uly. I used it along with the hard case set for an extended trip. Put some miles on the bike, it will get better the more you ride it. Also, if you've got the stock Dunlops, replace them as soon as you can with other tires. I've got Pirelli Syncs on mine and the difference is amazing. |

You forgot to ask the "real" question! Yes, ride an ORANGE one and you will find the black is fast is just a myth! But please do not tell Snub, we have him on meds and we do not want to excite him! BTW, welcome to the insanity. |

Gtmg - Welcome. I have not modified the healights other than adjustment so i can not help you there. I can understand why you would want to make a change there though. I have the 3 hard bags but I also have the Ventura pack that I used on my last trip to the dragon. I needed lean angle. The Ventura 45 liter bag works great set up and I have traveled up to five days and 1500 miles with just the ventura pack on the M2. Dragon slayer - SHHHH! You are not suppose to tell! You know we all agree to let the guys on the black ones believe they were faster since the Orange ones look better. You got to give them something to believe. |

Does anybody know if the new sidecases since their is a very new price of $799.00 are different than last years? Do they have some updates and eliminate the issues with busted latches and leaking??? GTMG Go Jackets |

Gtmg; my bags have never leaked, even when ridden through downpours that had me (and all the cars around me) going at half the posted speed limit. I'm not disputing that some bags leak; but mine don't. Last March at Daytona, I was told by someone fairly high up in the company (whose name I can't recall)that Buell had a fix for the latch problems, but it would take some time for the redesign to make it through the pipeline, but all Uly owners would be taken care of. I understand that the price increase is due to inflation and the relative value of the Dollar to the Euro. Even so, the Hepco&Becker bags are a bargain. Price bags of similar quality, and you'll see just how good a bargain they are. One thing that I've noticed in my eight years of Buell ownership is that every time the factory has addressed a problem area; that problem is solved and does not re-occur. Once the new latches get here, we'll be all set. |

As Crusty said " once a problem area is addressed it gets fixed and does not re-occur." Those of us from the tube frame Buell area know all about that. Don't worry about the small stuff, buy the bike and enjoy it. |

Retired_cop, could be but with the bags, it can not happen fast enough! The more I use them, the more I dislike them! Went to leave Quaker Steak late last night, thought I was going to have to use a rock to get my bag open. The lid does not align well with the bag which makes it hard to close and harder to open, latch will not release. Then I was rewarded with the seal falling half out! Worst motorcycle bags I have ever owned. Look nice though! |
