Hello all,
I originally posted this over in the Knowledge Vault, but it has sat for two days without a response so I thought I'd try here.

This I'm sure will be a bit of an odd post for you all, so hang with me here.

I'm trying to find out if the Ulysses windscreen/windshied attaches to the motorcycle frame the same way the Lightning's windscreen attaches.

You see, I currently own a Suzuki DR650 dual sport bike. One of the drawbacks of this bike is it has nothing in the way of a fairing or windshield, just a small number plate. Many of the DR owners have taken to mounting the Buell Lightning's flyscreen to the DR to act as a mini-fairing (see this post for more info: http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=300858&highlight=buell+headlig ht

It actually works quite well from all reports.

I however want to take it a step further. I love the Uly, it will quite possibly be my next bike, and I think the bigger screen with the windshield would look superb on my DR. So again, can anyone tell me if the Uly's windscreen/shield attaches in about the same way as the Lightning's? That is, are the mounting brackets and such in about the same positions and all.

Thanks much all.

A uly flyscreen will not bolt to a Lightning, nor vice versa. The Uly has a larger casting that the flyscreen bolts to and the screw holes are in different locations. I think if you were industrious (drill) you could drill holes in a Uly screen and fit it to a Lightning, but it wouldn't look pretty.

Good Luck
Cheers

Why not epoxy closed the existing holes, drill it, sand and paint it? Or would the size difference be an issue?

Or buy the screen attached to a Uly and solve all your problems : )

Hey all,
Thanks much for the responses. Let me clarify. I am not trying to attach a Uly flyscreen to a Lightning. I'm wanting to attach the uly flyscreen to my Suzuki DR650.

The reason I brought up the Lightning was that with the current modification that DR owners are doing, they are using the Lightning's flyscreen/headlight setup on the DR's. It seems the Lightning's double headlight setup will mount directly into the DR's stock bottom hole in the triple clamp, picture here: http://www.ryleesmith.com/dt/Buell%20headlight/Bottom%20bracket.JPG

So, it seems once the headlight is mounted and in place the Lightning's flyscreen bracket attaches to the headlight assembly. Then, these DR owners are fabricating custom brackets to attach the flyscreen bracket to the DR's top triple clamp bolt, and then attaching the flyscreen to the bracket. It looks great and from all reports does what it is suppose to do: http://www.ryleesmith.com/dt/Buell%20headlight/DT%20Bike.JPG

Again, I like the Uly's screen. It is bigger and has a windshield. Now that I'm wading through all my ramblings here I guess I'm just trying to find out if:

A. The Uly's flyscreen bracket mounts to the headlight assembly, and if the Uly's headlight assembly is about the same as the lightning's.
B. Where are the Uly's top mounting holes on its flyscreen bracket as opposed to the Lightnings. Are they higher, lower, about the same spot?...etc.

I tried looking at this mounting setup on a Uly in the showroom, but it was hard to see how it all mounted up.

Thanks again.

Laminar Lip makes a lip for the Lightnings fly screen. I know thats not the answer you were looking for just thought I would throw it up as a suggestion for an improvement on the other mod.

Sorry if this is of no use to you.
Hope you find your answer.
