I just added my Uly to my Progressive policy and I about fell over! Even with high deductable, the annual rate is $938, compared to my '02 S3T at $355 annually. I would appreciate input on what others are seeing. I understood Buell had discussions with insurance companies on the Uly and that rates were to be resonable? I would have also thought a late 30's, married, clean record, etc. would have commanded a better rate?? Thanks. |

Hi Chopperboy, I was with Progressive before I got the Uly and I had the same sticker shock. I talked to the HD salesman about it and he said that HD offers an insurance program and got me a quote through HD/Dairyland. It is about 1/2 of the Progressive price. : ) I am hoping that insurance on the ULY will be less as time goes by and insurance companies see low claims on the bike. I read in the Cycle World article that Buell took efforts to make the bike tip over proof in order to acheive lower insurance rates so I was sadly disappointed when it it was time to insure it. There have been many posts of Uly drops that were for fixed like new for $100 - $200 so hopefully in time those rates will go down........ Happy Trails, WindRider |

I am in the $400 a year range with a $500 deductible and covered for $2,500 worth of accessories. I was with with progressive for several years and my rates constantly went up, never down. I am with state farm now and pay $6 each for liability on my 63panhead, 92r100gspd and 54Kh. Not bad for being 28. I might be getting the fleet discount. (LOL) Jeremy |

LOL - Insurance Corporation of British Columbia. If I wasnt a 'gold star' driver, w/ massive discounts, the annual premiums for full coverage work out around $4200 canadian a year for an Xb9Sx cityX needless to say I'm resorting to the mandatory minimum coverage through ICBC, and my comprehensive+collision through a private company! c |

UPDATE: I received a quote from Dairyland yesterday - $514 annually for my Uly. Still a little high IMO. Needless to say, I "pulled the pin" on Progressive. I would suggest giving Dairyland a call if your Progressive rates are similar to rates I received. Thanks to all. |

I had Progressive on my BMW then I bought my first Buell. Their rates seemed way out of wack. I have Geico now and am very satisfied. |

Geico warning....never mention the word "track" to anybody from Geico. They promptly sent me a check and dropped my sorry arse!!!! I've file a complaint because I never insured the bike in question. |

Oh yeah...rates: $584 per year for all 3 Buells. That's the rate from Progressive (Drive Insurance). I have a $500 deducatable on each bike with max coverage. I should mention the bikes are S3T, S1W & Blast. |

I forget my exact premium (and coverage)---I've suppressed it---but it's darn near the minimum. Here in New Mexico---where most of the drivers are drunk and uninsured (including state legislators)--- insurance is VERY expensive. And we're a poor state. Of course my premiums essentially cover three or four other uninsured drivers. BTW I'm 58, married, 4 kids, college professor, yada yada, and even I have high premiums. Same situation in, say, Denver is MUCH MUCH lower. Good thing the riding is great here! |

The city and even neighborhood of the city you live in makes a significant difference. I'm in Seattle and it's very high. Even though I'm 50, have 5 bikes, car, and house insured with Farmer's. I had a MINOR single-vehicle claim 2.8 years ago. I should have paid it myself. As soon as 3 years is up I'll be shopping for insurance again. |

Farmer's will bend you right over for a claim. The same thing happened to me, and I am now with State Farm. They have my house too. |

I am insured with Progressive and carry high coverages and live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Just over 600 bucks a year. I used to be with Geico for my trucks, but they were NEVER in the ballpark for any of my bikes (usually double). I'm over 40 with a clean record. |

Never mention a radar detector to Geico, either. That company donates radar guns to police jurisdictions and will drop you like a hot rock if you own a radar detector. The logic is simple: "We make more money than it costs to give away radar detectors when we raise the rates we charge our customers when they receive speeding tickets." Geico is also very politically active. Last year they gave a very substantial amount of money to the ACLU. |

I can't imagine an insurance company can drop you for radar detector use in a state where such use is legal, unless it was specifically written into the policy (which I can't imagine it is). FWIW, lots of insurance companies provide radar guns to police agencies, not just GEICO. |

They all provide radar/lidar to the police. It is like getting a bonus, write a ticket, raise the rates. The more radar/laser guns there are, the better chance they have of getting more rate increases. |

Roadrailer, The multimillion dollar gift the head guy at Geico made to the ACLU last year was in the news. I bet you can Google it easily. As for the Q&A that Geico does when it's time to renew your policy, I've experienced it first hand. |

Dudeman, Oh man, you're right! It was Peter B. Lewis the head of Progressive Insurance that made the multimillion dollar donation to the ACLU! Thanks for setting me straight! I have insured with Progressive for years, but they dropped their AMA discount and my rate has inched up progressively (no pun intended) for several years now. The AMA is now promoting a 10% discount they've negotiated with Nationwide Insurance, so I'll probably go there when my insurance comes up for renewal this summer. Thanks again. |

I CAN specifically prove this. A co-worker of mine was dropped like a hot potato when re sponded to a questionare from Geico. FYI - Detectors are LEGAL in Indiana. I wouldn't insure with GEICO if they were one of the last insurance companies on planet Earth!!!!} |

I'm insured with BikeLine/Markell currently, and have been very pleased with their customer service, although I've never had a claim with them so am not sure how they are about handing out money. For me, they were also SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than both Progressive and GEICO (and that's with 2 cars under GEICO.) |

If you are insured with GEICO, you need to study your policy. I am not quite sure of the pattern, but some of their motorcycle policies have a mileage limitation of 500 miles in 24 hours. Sounds like a lot, right? Say you get off work on a Friday night and book a few hours to make a gathering on Saturday night. By noon the next day, you would have out-ridden your insurance. Sure, would they bother checking for a small claim? Probably not, but have something bad happen where you are going to max out a $100,000+ policy and they'll check all right. Read and understand your policy, especially if you use GEICO! Mike |

When I first saw the Uly in a dealership last year, I contacted my agent at Allstate and was quoted $1200/yr ($250 deduct). Last month I called them again. Allstate had re-classified the Uly as a dual-sport, and dropped the rate to $450/yr ($250 deduct). |
