Hi there..... Im a recent proud (or not so much) owner of a Uly...... but since I got it (2 months and 2k km ago) Ive had several thingies.... First the rusty muffler..... how can something so new be so rusty??!!! Then the Swimming...... which kinda went away with some torqueing the steering and getting rid of the wind screen.... Then the break light....... malfunctioning switch..... And now I discovered that the rear cylinder is beeing smashed by the seat...... so now I have a hammered spot in the rear cylinder..... What the hek is going on? Did some stupid monkeys put together my bike or what? has this happened to any of you? Im so upset..... I did not spent 13k on the bike just to discover that there are so many small things to fix..... Im willing to go to the dealer and ask Buell to replace my rear cylinder head and fix the issue (I dont care keeping the seat as the damage in seat is minimal).... |

I have the same spot on the right rear corner of my rear cylinder rocker box. Looks like it rubs pretty hard there. Maybe I can space out the seat a little. |

Yeah..... I didnt mean its not easy to solve.... probably just adjusting the metal lock at the bottom of the seat...... but honestly..... I dont wanna live with an smashed cylinder.... its not nice if at some point you decide to sell the bike... |

when you are saying smashed, do you mean dented? Is it just the paint being worn? I cant imagine sitting on the bike and damaging the the head. Can you post a picture? I would love to see what you are talking about. |

Mine is showing a bit of rubbing a bit on the corner of the rocker cover. Odd but not a big deal. Must happen when she's hoppin' around at idle. |

I think they all pretty much do this rocker box-seat rub thing. It appears to just be polishing the rocker box on mine. I'm not worried about it at all. As to the other problems, I have read that several guys in here have had their mufflers replaced under warranty. The swimming thing sounds like a set up problem suspension settings, tire pressures, etc... The back of the second page of your owner's manual tells you exactly how to handle these issues. |

Unless this is a totally new thing smashed may be a bit much. If its a rub and it's under the seat what is the problem? I think I may be drunk as I had a beer 3 days ago. LOL |

The seat rubbing the rear rocker box cover on the corner of the rocker box has been talked about before. I used a dremmel tool and just cut out a small piece of the plastic seat pan where it rubbed. Problem solved but it really wasn't a major problem. That cover is very thick and would take years to be rubbed through by a plastic seat pan. In fact the plastic would wear through before the aluminum rocker box cover would. I only fixed it because it was transmitting some vibes into the seat. Your brake light switch is the first failure of this part I have heard of so it's probably not an issue. Just an isolated defective part. Buell is actively working on solving a few small issues that have all been talked about here. They have been very pro-active at supporting the new product and correcting these issues. It seems the swimming that has been talked about is more related to tires, tire pressure, and suspension set-up. Stay tuned in here for more info as it comes out. There are some dealers on the board with close ties to Buell and Daves is probably the best at getting things done. Court is also a good person to get help from if needed. I'm one of the first owners ( VIN#33) and have had all the minor stuff at one time or another and nothing has been a major problem yet. I don't sweat the small stuff and usually fix things myself unless it requires a new part. This is still the best product Buell has made and I'll stand behind them as long as they support the product! It's also the best performing bike I have ever owned out of several. BC Steve |

Well...... its not that Im saying the the Uly is a piece of crap.... not at all.... Im happy with the bike....... its just that the small things bother me, because I do not expect them when buying a Buell.... About the hammering... Ill post a pic soon... The swimming..... its not about suspensions or pressure..... I did both.... and had to take the bike to tighten the steering..... and now its barely noticeable.... |

Smashed?????? I don't see smashed. You should also look inside your exhaust it is probably incinerated. LOL |

I would call that a start. If the seat rubbed the rest of the rocker box that way it would look pretty sharp. |

mmmm...... well...... might not be smashed like hell.... but its definetly no gentle decoating....... the inner part of the seat is taking the shape of the cylinder..... Thunderbox....... I bet the inside of the exhaust is pretty ugly..... but ill never put my eye on a pencil just to see whats inside....... the external engine should never look like this..... on the other hand.... the engine is coated for a reason..... given the high temps if uncoated, the metals will oxidate and deteriorate a big deal.... its not an aesthetic matter...... its a protective one...... so.... will my rocker cover get up after some time with rain, snow, salt, dirt, etc?? |

Nah, the seat will wipe off any oxidation that forms. |

Isaac, I think the long and the short of it is this is a personal thing for you. It doesn't really worry me (yet), and I am beginning to understand that others are not that worried about it either. However, if it bothers you, for the sake of your own $12k-investment, take it in for service and ask for a new rocker box and a fix for the seat. I am sure they will take care of it under warranty. |

As soon as I saw this on a topic I took my trusty dremel and ground the area away on the seat so it wouldn't rub it too bad. No problem since. I am sure that is what the dealer will do also. If you want another rocker box cover then ask them to replace it but I don't think it is an issue I would worry about. |

I would worry more about leaks and other stuff that changing the rocker box might cause. Out of sight...out of mind. |
