Well, I'm getting close to breaking down and trading up to it. So, just in case I go crazy and buy it I have some questions.

First off, I've heard that the Uly doesn't use the Interactive Exhaust, but that Buell made an ECM that works for the Uly and is better than the Race ECM. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Also, if I got the Uly I would like to go with the Drummer, Does Kevin have a Drummer made specifically for the Uly that can be used with the stock ECM with no power problems?

Second, I have the right side Airscoop from Trojan for my City X. Does anyone know if this would fit the Uly no problem or if not does Trojan have one for the Uly?

The Uly does have the Interactive exhaust valve.

Kevin makes a Drummer for the Uly. It is the same for all XB12. I just got one for my Uly two days ago. It is nice and deep. It works with stock ECM no problem. Just disconnect the valve cable at both ends.

Don't know about the scoop.

Cat,
Has the right side airscoop made a significant improvement in reducing the heat on your right leg?

The stock right side scoop is the same part number for the ULY and other XB models.
The only issue might be that the frame is wider on the ULY.
As long as your scoop stays below the bottom of the frame it should work fine.

You going to come ride the U.P. with us?

Doubt I could get the time off Dave. Wish I could

Brother, never noticed heat from the right side of the engine on my leg. I did notice that the fan runs less with it.

Got some new questions.

How has the Uly been with those who own it. Namely, how much fun has it been? How well does it handle off roading. I've been reading tons about how good this bike is overall. What do the owners like most about this bike? What do the owners like the least?

How good are the hard bags for this bike? Is there enough space for packing enough items to take a 2 week trip?

Seat height is a big one for me. I've sat on the Uly and was on my toes. For those like me, do you have the Low Seat and how much of a difference did it make?

How good are the tires on the Uly? What's them ost millage any of you have gotten out of them? I'm looking for 8000 miles or better on the rear.

Ryan,
I can't speak to the Trojan scoop, but I have our new right side air scoop mounted on my Uly now. Fits great, and any scoop that would fit an XB12R or S should fit the Uly as well. Can't say I noticed a reduction in leg temp, but I haven't driven with it in very hot weather either. The fan definitely does operate less, though.

See right side air scoop

Some pics mounted on the Uly:

Al, from the looks of your pic I would say the Uly's frame up front hasn't changed any from the XB frame. That's a relief.

Um dood it's a hoot! the bike does it all, I ride with "sport bike guys " ( u know cbr1000rr 636 ect...) and have no prob keeping up in the twisties, I've taken it off road with a DR650. And ya it's just fun period.

I only have about 1800 miles on it at the moment but year tire is good if get 3000 miles out of the rear i'll be happy : ) if you want 8000 miles well..... good luck i guess you could get different tires put on but most long life tires are a compromsie to say the least!

good luck

...GOsh cataract... I have 2 other Buells that have not seen the road since I brought it home. There was a survey from another potential owner a few weeks back asking similar questions. I can't locate the thread now.

My recommendation. BUY IT. If you've wrestled with the idea for 2 weeks, it's 2 weeks too long.

I've not taken my Uly off-road yet. A thread or two at ADVRider details some trips

Actually, it is quite a bit different, but not in a way that affects the scoop fit. The three mounting points are in the same place, as is the top surface of the scoop that goes against the bottom surface of the right frame spar. The top edge of the Scoop comes very close to following the lower outside corner of the frame on the shop XB9, but look how much that it is inside of that edge on the Uly shots above.

The XB9s shot closest to the one above:

Cataract,

Dude, buy one from Daves. You'll get a vacation/adventure out of it on top of a great bike. We can ride back to FL relatively quickly if time off is an issue. Heck, we would also get to split some expenses. You need to think about it.

I also have to say that dealing with Daves is an added bonus. I keep adding farkles to my up coming Uly and dave has been very accomidating with it.

FYI, I am having my exhaust Drummerized and will be sticking with the stock ECM.

Mildy interesting story:

I was at Destination Daytona (100K ft2 HD shop in Ormond Bch) Fri. looking at a Uly and listening to this guy extol its virtues to the people around it. I mentioned to him that I had bought one and told him the deal with Dave/Appleton. He said "Hey, I am the owner of Smokey Mt. HD/Buell and stop by on your way home in May." He was a very nice guy who apparently comes to Daytona with his father in law every T'giving for the Turkey Rod Run (big hot rod thing at the speedway).

Anyway, he was very enthused about the 12X and I just might look him up in May.

I toured the shop a couple of days after it opened. I've never been 'into' Harleys', but that place is nice. They were too busy to make me an offer on the X. My brother-in-law is Mayor of Ormond Beach (where D-D is located), and is pressing me to buy there. Okay, bro, just get me a deal!

I've been told by guys who live up there near Smoky HD that they are a very good shop. Wish I had stopped there back in Aug. when I was up there.

If we're talking Smokey Mt. Buell/HD in Maryville, TN (right at the foot of Deals Gap) then I have to tell how disappointed I was when a buddy and I took both our Ulysses in for their first services.

Specifically, the folks were nice, the service dept was fine (despite an oil fitting that started leaking on mine after the service) and the whole place had that Taj MaHarley thing going on, but there were a total of just three Buells on the floor (1 Blast, 2 Lightnings) and almost no accessories in sight! I think "the dragon" was a symbol used in promotional material for Buell in years past, and Lord knows we had a blast on the piece of pavement while we were there with the Uly's, but come one... How can anyone there claim to be enthusiastic about the products and have such a dismal display of them. We had every intentions of buying the prerequisite hats and t-shirts, but could not find anything wearing the Buell logo anywhere in the shop.

I hope our experience was worse than what future customers will have when the visit that gorgeous establishment, but if your not on a "real" Harley product be prepared to feel as if you've been voted off biker island!

Just my 2 cents..

My local HD/Buell dealership (Pensacola, FL) has 2 Buells on the sales floor located in the back by the bathrooms and no accessories/apparel. I visited the Bluegrass HD/Buell dealership in Louisville, KY last week and they had 5 new Buells and 3 used ones UP FRONT! As soon as you walked in the door! They also had an entire rack of Buell shirts and hats of all different styles. I know each individual dealership is different but I'm starting to suspect that the farther north you get, the more prevalent Buells are at dealerships. The KY dealership guy said they can't keep Uly's on the floor, so is it a coincidence then that the KY dealership charges prep and set-up fees while the Pensacola dealership doesn't?

Dave,
"Taj MaHarley" is all yours! Hopefully in May I'll get to your neck of the woods and see what an enthusiastic dealer really looks like before we head to the U.P.!

If our calendars allow, I'll try and get my buddy from upstate NY to meet me there with his Uly as well.

Thanks for all the info you been feeding the BadWeb about this awesome bike (only 2000 miles on mine now but I'm loving it).

Later,
John

Sorry to new here to figure out most of it already... Hope I didn't offend either of you along the way.

And yeah, the U.P. trip is going to be a target for me, for sure. Hope I'll be able to confirm well in advance!

Slayer; I too bought mine prior to catching word of the deals at Daves / Appleton. A shame indeed!

Daves; Any more info about "homecoming"? The wife and I are excited about the trip. Looks like it's only about eight to ten hours away.

Same here...Homecoming sounds like fun. It should be about a 10 hour slab ride for me too, but I would be inclined to take as many twisty bits as I could and make it a two day run up, then possibly slab it back.

Chad, if you head up this way let me know. If nothing else I can offer some advice on routes and backroads. They aren't as good as what you've got, but they don't deserve the rep they get either.
