I am waiting to take a uly on test ride when dealer gets one, but could the bike benefit from a 6 speed tranny? I have not seen any comments on that subject. Thanks |

I don't think it needs one at all. The transmission is smooth and the powerband is all over the spectrum! I've never missed a shift in 3K miles. You'll find this bike is very well sorted out and a true pleasure to ride. BC Steve |

Hi Steve, I think that *many* motorcycles could benefit from a 6th gear if it were configured as an overdrive to keep rpm's modest at highway cruising speeds. On my DRZ for example, if it had a tall 6th gear the other gears could be slightly lower providing more off-road low end grunt. On my S2 it would make cruising at freeway speeds more fuel efficient. I think in both cases the engine has plenty of juice to pull that 6th gear. But I have no data to back that up. Regards, Jim in SB |

i'd love to have a uly with a 6th gear if it didnt mess with the current setup too much. the bike easily does 110+ and can go quite a bit faster, but then the wind becomes a problem. My fuel usage was pretty consistent, even when doing long stretches at 90+ (like accross a few states) a 6th gear would be nice, but definitely not needed. |
